Green school
Our school will be a living example of an energy-efficient and environmentally aware building and community. We seek to use up-to-date technology and thought available in this area to offer innovative ideas and ways of living. We will show realistic, workable ways forward for society in facing the decline of the earth’s resources. However, we will also draw on traditional wisdom which practises working in partnership with the earth; giving back as much as taking.
We hope to work with local conservation groups to make our site as wildlife-friendly as possible and teach our children how to do this for themselves.
Ideally we would design new buildings to fit with our ‘green’ ethos, using natural, local materials, a simple construction and skilled, local craftsmen.
The internal environment of the classroom needs to reflect the natural world; this comes from a belief and understanding that we should engage a child’s sensory organs in a gentle and harmonious way from the colours used, the sounds created (by people and things) and the equipment that a child uses in the lesson.
There is endless potential for creating a personal environment for the children in their own classrooms. The room is like a second home so every effort is made to make it beautiful, comfortable and able to serve the diverse needs of the group from academic subjects to activities which involve movement and space.
